What Is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is a form of psychotherapy that is recognized worldwide as effective in the treatment of trauma and other disturbing events. Childhood trauma, sexual abuse, accidents and any other life threatening events or trauma and PTSD (post-traumatic stress syndrome).
EMDR therapy targets the unprocessed memories that contain negative emotions, sensations and beliefs. By activating the brain’s information processing system, the old memories can then be digested, leaving what is useful and learned. What’s useless is discarded, and the memory is now stored in a way that is no longer damaging.
